HOW TO PLAN A DAY TRIP TO DISNEYLAND PARIS

Disneyland Park originally called Euro Disneyland and best known as Disneyland Paris, is a theme park in Marne-la-Vallée, France. The park opened in April 1992 and it’s the second largest Disney Park in the world after the original Magic Kingdom at Disney World in Florida.

With five different themed areas and numerous attractions, it’s a fun day trip that you should consider if you’re planning to visit Paris. People of all ages will have a good day out in the park as there is some magic in the air that I can’t put into words! For me it just took me back to my happiest childhood memories.

✎ BEFORE YOUR TRIP TO DISNEYLAND PARIS

The park is big and there are a lot of attractions. How long you want to spend inside is up to you. A lot of people prefer to stay 2-3 days in order to fully enjoy the park and to do all rides slower. But if you are on a trip to Paris and don’t have much time you may consider going just for the day from central Paris. Two years ago I did just that and I had a really nice experience.

It was very easy to get there and time when smoothly with all the things to do. I’m giving you some simple tips that will help you to visit Disneyland Paris in one day just like I did.

① Best time to go?

All year round, but if the plan is to enjoy Disneyland in one day, ideally good weather and as few people as possible are the main two things to consider. Logically avoid the weekends, public holidays and the school vacations. I went in February, during the week and purchased a flexible ticket in order to go on the day with the best weather during my time in Paris.

There were not a lot of people in the park and in the most famous rides the queues were about 20 to 30 minutes. Getting to the park as soon as it opens it’s also something that you should plan to do as it gets crowded in the afternoon.

② Buy tickets in advance

To enjoy even more a full day out there I suggest you to buy the tickets in advance, online, on the official website (here) in order to avoid queues once you reach the park. Doing this will also save you some money as most of the tickets online have discount.

There are two separate parks at Disneyland Paris: Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studio. Most people buy a ticket for both parks but it is possible to buy tickets for just one.

There are several options for the 1-day-ticket and the prices vary from 50€ to 85€, depending on the time of the week/year you visit. All the information about the different tickets can be found here.

③ How to get there?

The best way to get there from Central Paris is by train. Line A (red) of the RER trains takes you to Marne-la-Vallée – Chessy station, which is just a 2 minute walk to the Disney Parks (RER map). The tickets are easy to get from the machines; they have several languages so hopefully it should be a simple process. The ticket costs approximately 9€ Don’t worry if you miss one train as they pass every 15 minutes and take about 40 minutes to reach the park.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION ABOUT DISNEYLAND PARIS

If you are just going for one day, like I did, and you really have something that you want to see/do on the park I suggest you have a look on the different rides before you go and then start your day with those. You can never anticipate how long you will be in queues but you can have an idea of the park before you go.

Disneyland is divided into four themes: Discoveryland, Frontierland, Adventureland and Fantasyland and a lot of shops to visit on the way.

 Main attractions

The Fantasyland is one of my favourites as I loved all the princess stories when I was a kid. It did made me dream about the fairy tales and the fact that many of these Disney characters walk around the park makes it even more real. They do move around and some only appear at certain times, so if there is a specific one that you really want to see ask at the entrance about it.

Another thing that I loved was the shows during the day. There was one big parade mid-afternoon which was something magical, when several stories and characters came in a parade all together with music and dancing.

At night there was the Disney Dreams when the park closed with music and lights of all colours. Bear in mind the times for the trains and that when the park closes everyone will be running to the trains, so maybe leave the park a few minutes before the end of the show.

Eat and drink in the Park

There are many restaurants and bars inside Disneyland Paris and they are all ridiculously expensive for the food they offer. It is up to you what to do, but my suggestion is to bring food and drinks for the day with you in a small backpack.

This will not only save you some money but will also allow you to keep going on the rides without having to spend at least 1 hour in the restaurants.

Buy souvenirs

Several themed shops across the park will sell basically anything you can imagine. Even the smallest toy or mug could easily cost 20€. It’s easy to lose yourself in these shops, first because they are everywhere and then because they have some awesome stuff on display.

 Remember that some of the toys from there you can buy for less money back in the Disney store in central Paris.
