Looking for a hotel for your trip to Copenhagen can be time both consuming and challenging. Ideally you want to be central and close to most attractions but the problem is that most of these hotels cost a small fortune for a weekend away.
The Savoy Hotel is a good option if you want to combine excellent location with price. Back in March I had the opportunity to stay at the hotel for two nights and now I’m sharing my experience and overall review.
EXCELLENT LOCATION
The Savoy Hotel is located in Vesterbrogade, between the Frederiksberg and Vesterbro districts and it’s really easy to find it, either you’re coming straight from the airport or other area in Copenhagen.
From the airport you can get a train straight to Copenhagen Central station with a short 6-8 minute walk to the hotel. Vesterport train station is also located 8-10 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
Alternatively you can use the bus 6A, 9A, 26, 31 and 93N that stop just a few steps to the hotel front door.
The location is excellent (from my opinion living in Copenhagen for the past two years and knowing the city very well) as within a few steps you will find lots of restaurants, cafes and cheap supermarkets. It’s also on walking distance to most of the attractions that you will want to see in Copenhagen.
THE SAVOY HOTEL
Having stayed in so many business hotels my arrival to the Savoy Hotel felt like a breath of fresh air.
Just like the Danish cosy approach to life, this hotel has simple yet contemporary decoration with a unique warm character.
Member of the Epoque Hotels, a hotel chain for independent hotels, this boutique hotel in the heart of Copenhagen is like the other members independent and privately managed which is why it maintains such an unique character that you will not see in another hotel.
It was recently renovated but still preserves original features like their lift from when the hotel first opened.
HOTEL LOBBY AND OTHER AREAS
One of my favourite areas in the Savoy Hotel was the lobby. With a stylish chic decoration, the lobby is very welcoming to any leisure activity.
Either you want to read the daily newspaper or indulge in one of the many books available at reception, this space is perfect! There are even tablets for a quick search on the internet.
The best part is the bar next to reception which serves free pastries, fruit, tea and coffee all day for free. These little details within the hotel really show how much they care about the comfort of the guests and it was a treat every day!
I always love to take the lift but in this hotel, believe me; you want to take the stairs. This is because not only the walls are unique printed with beautiful designs but also because of the magnificent chandelier.
I mean how gorgeous is this?
THE ROOMS AT THE SAVOY HOTEL
The Savoy hotel has 66 rooms that go from single rooms to big suites with living rooms or even the deluxe rooms with a Jacuzzi in the bathroom. Have a look here for other types of rooms.
I stayed in a comfortable double room with large windows and a lot of light. The room faced the courtyard and in one of the days it was beautiful to wake up to the snow.
The rooms are decorated just as the rest of the hotel, reflecting the Scandinavian minimalist décor that I love and always makes me feel relaxed. I loved the light blue and white colour choices for bed adornments and the chic wall paper.
My room had a tea and coffee machine (you can never have too much coffee – they read my mind!), large TV, a desk – perfect to work and a small sofa by the window, which I loved to relax in the afternoon after being out and about in the city.
There was an open wardrobe perfect to hang all my dresses and organize my travel accessories plus the suitcase.
The bathroom was equipped with a shower, hairdryer, towels and toiletries.
The Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the hotel with good signal.
THE BREAKFAST
If you have been following my adventures around the world and watch my day-to-day life on Instagram you know that breakfast is very important to me.
The breakfast is included in the room rate and has a variety of fresh breads and pastries, fruits, cold meats, pates and cheeses.
I loved the boiled eggs and the organic yogurt with berries which I had every day together with bread and marmalade. Coffee, several types of tea and juices are also available for breakfast.
The space is cosy, like the other hotel areas, and you can choose in between table seating or the cool booth seating. If you visit during a warm season and the sun is shining I would not miss the opportunity of having breakfast outside in the courtyard.
WHAT YOU CAN DO AROUND THE SAVOY HOTEL
If you’re in doubt of what you can do around Copenhagen, reception is open 24 hours and the staff is really friendly and can help you with any doubts and give you tips about the area, transports and sightseeing.
A 10 minute walk from the hotel will take you to Tivoli, one the coolest places in Copenhagen to visit. From there you have many other places for sightseeing.
You can always opt for the Danish way and rent a bike directly from the hotel to go out to explore without worrying about transports.
At night if you just want to relax around the hotel, there are numerous restaurants, bars and even the cinema which I end up going on my last night at the hotel.
In the area I can recommend the South Indian restaurant with a very interesting variety of food and Cafe Emma, an affordable and delicious option just opposite from the cinema.
OVERALL OPINION
The Savoy Hotel was a pleasant surprise in Copenhagen. Their attention to details and towards the guests was something I really enjoyed during my stay.
Would gladly come back to stay in the future and recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Copenhagen. As I mentioned before the location and cost is excellent when compared to many other options, so don’t hesitate when booking your accommodation.
