Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark and not far away from Copenhagen. I wanted to visit for so long and I finally made up plans to do so last month. With so many hotels in Aarhus I wanted something different were I could enjoy the city but also the beach and the sea.
With a splendid view of the bay of Aarhus the Helnan Marselis Hotel is an excellent choice in terms of location, exactly what I was looking for!
The hotel has direct access to the beach and the beautiful Marselis Forest is just around the corner with the city centre being just 10 minute away by car.
With all these offers in terms of location, the hotel is one of the most attractive amongst the other hotels in Aarhus. I had the privilege of staying at this hotel for one night during my road trip in Denmark and now I’m sharing my experience.
HELNAN MARSELIS HOTEL
Opened in 1967 by Anker Jakobsen, one of the local master mason, the Helnan Marselis Hotel was one of kind straight away. This was due to the fact that every brick in the hotel was hand-made and just like the pyramids in Egypt, no two bricks have the same size or shape.
Later on the hotel was taken over by the international hotel chain, Helnan International Hotels and since then has had changes and improvements that made the hotel really stand out internationally and amongst Denmark’s best hotels.
The hotel features many areas to make your stay the most comfortable such as swimming pool, sauna, fitness room, restaurant, bar and terrace as well as a banquet and convention rooms, a wellness area and parking facilities.
ROOM WITH A VIEW
When I arrived at the Helnan Marselis Hotel and checked into my room I was in love straight away with the view!
I mean my photos will speak more than my words but it was so inspiring and relaxing looking at the calm blue waters of the Aarhus Bay from my room balcony!
Watching the sunset from my balcony was fantastic and falling asleep with nothing but the sound of the sea was marvellous!
I think that was the reason I had such a regenerating sleep at the hotel, that or the extra-large and super comfortable bed.
The rooms are superb, not only in terms of decoration but also space. They are really classy and have a luxury feel about it.
Decorated to fit the surroundings of the sea, the blue and white colours really fit the maritime theme.
My room had all the essentials amenities such as TV with international channels, a large bathroom, telephone, hairdryer, free internet and large wardrobe to hang my clothes.
HOTEL FACILITIES
The hotel offers an indoor swimming pool, a fitness room and a sauna as part of the hotel wellness experience for every guest. I had a relaxing time swimming at the pool after my day out exploring Aarhus. Could not have ended the best way!
The beach is just in front of the hotel and you have private access directly from the hotel which was nice to go and watch the sunset!
The hotel also provides bike rental which is useful to explore more of the Marselis Forest or to quickly go up to Aarhus city centre.
There is an onsite restaurant, the Marselis Restaurant, which offers a la carte menu for lunch and dinner with views over the ocean.
At any time of the day you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea that they provide near reception. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and free parking which was useful for me as I was traveling by car.
THE BREAKFAST AT HELNAN MARSELIS HOTEL
The breakfast is included in the booking and has a large variety of different types of bread and Danish pastries, fruits, cold meats, pates and cheeses. I loved the warm bacon, soft boiled eggs and sausages.
Coffee, several types of tea and juices were also available. All of this with an ocean view. You can enjoy it on the inside from where the breakfast is served or out in the terrace.
I loved the quiet time outside looking at the sea while having a cappuccino.
BEST LOCATION TO EXPLORE AARHUS
The Helnan Marselis Hotel has without a doubt, the best location to explore Aarhus. It’s situated just in front of the Bay of Aarhus with direct access to the beach and right next to the Marselis Forest, where the Deer Park is located.
Also the hotel is located in a quiet area were you just hear the sound of the sea at night. You can get to city centre in only 10 minutes by car or other transports.
The infinite bridge, another must see for your trip to Aarhus, is also located just 5 minute walking distance from the hotel as well as the Marselisborg Palace, the royal residence of the Danish Royal Family in Aarhus.
FINAL THOUGHTS
This hotel was quite a big surprise for me! Staying there for one night was already enough for me to realize how much the hotel staff is kin on making our experience as a guest in the hotel the most unique and memorable one.
Also I thought the rooms were brilliant with a luxurious decoration and a super comfortable bed. The views to the sea were so good that I almost forgot that I was in Denmark!
All the amenities mentioned just made my stay at the hotel super comfortable and I truly enjoyed my time at the indoor pool and the beach.
Overall the hotel was very tidy, clean, with great service at breakfast and provided me with a great night of sleep. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Gorgeous! I must visit Aarhus when next in Denmark. I’ve only done Copenhagen so I hope Aarhus is not as expensive as the capital. Each brick is handmade? Wowza! That’s a beautiful hotel.

Food in restaurants and shops was slightly less expensive but entrance to places are about the same same prices but I hope that don’t put you off visiting! It’s a beautiful city!

I love this hotel. The rooms look really spacious which is fantastic. If I got to go some day I would love to also visit the deer park! Wow can’t believe they wee that close to you.

I was only once in Denmark and then I visited Copenhagen. I’m sorry I missed Aarhus. The hotel works perfectly for relaxation and look at that sea view!

I am a huge fan of the beach and I love hotels like this located exactly at the beach front! The view is awesome, who wouldn’t want to wake up to that in the morning! I also love the fact that the room is beautifully decorated and really spacious! The amenities are a huge bonus!
