SAIDPUR VILLAGE IN ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN

Saidpur is one of the oldest villages of Pakistan located in the picturesque Margalla Hills.

With more than five hundred years of history it’s well known for its rich heritage, culture, and folklore and for being a significant place of worship for Hindus and Muslims alike.

The beautiful colourful buildings with the scenic hills in the background attract a lot of people for photo shoots and it’s not unusual to see newly married couples taking their wedding photos there.

BACKGROUND HISTORY OF SAIDPUR VILLAGE

Saidpur Village history is built from different tales of different eras and it wasn’t always known by its current name.

In 1530 for example, the village was called Fatehpur Baoli a tribute to its founder Mirza Fateh Ali.

Then in 1580 Hindu Commander Raja Maan Singh transformed Saidpur into a Hindu worship location by constructing the temples that you can still see nowadays.

The village changed its name to Saidpur shortly after this events when Emperor Akbar (Mughal era) offered the village to Sultan Said Khan who later gifted it to his daughter.

Around the 20th century a Gurdwara (which is a place of assembly and worship for Sikhs) was built there just adjacent to the Hindus temples.

WHEN TO VISIT

I really recommend you to visit Saidpur during different times of the day because it’s really interesting to see how it completely changes from day to night.

During the day it’s normally busy with photo shoots around sunset and you can see properly all the colours of the temples.

At night it’s gets beautiful and comes alive with fairy lights everywhere and it’s a nice place to have dinner.

Also together with a few art galleries and some nice jewellery shops, there are some great places to eat and drink either during the day or night, but as I mentioned before I much preferred the vibe at night.

Des Pardes and Andaaz are the two main restaurants were people usually visit. I must say I really enjoyed the traditional Pakistani food in Des Pardes and would go back any time.

Saidpur village brings together a multicultural heritage from old times to present and despite the fact that it attracts a lot of tourists you can still see the essence of the simple life in Pakistani villages.

It does make you feel like you are not in Islamabad anymore and I suggest you visit either by yourself or with a guide but don’t miss it if you’re in Islamabad.
